Real Christmas Trees Leicester

Our real Christmas trees are all UK grown. Real Christmas trees will be on sale from Saturday 26th November 2011.

Nordman Fir Christmas Trees Leicester

By far the most popular Christmas Tree will sell - Nordman Fir Christmas Trees. These are bushy & wide at the bottom with a nice even taper to the top. This is a low needle drop variety, which means your tree will still be looking great on New Year's Day. This variety has fewer needles, but are a lot fleshier than a Norway Spruce Christmas Trees, contributing to the longevity of the tree.

How to choose your Christmas Tree

1) Measure the height of your room before you come to pick a Christmas Tree

It sounds simple, but it's difficult to judge when you are surrounded by Christmas Trees. So many people come back and tell us they've had to cut bits off to make it fit, so measuring before will save you some work.

2) Know how wide your Christmas tree can be

Same reasons as above.

3) The heavier your Christmas Tree the better

This means the tree is holding a lot of water, and means it is fresher and probably wasn't cut that long ago. If a tree is as light as a feather, the tree was cut along time ago, and is very dehydrated, meaning all the needles will drop off quite soon.

4) Choose your Christmas Tree as early as possible

Some people think it's better to buy your Christmas Tree as near to Christmas as possible, as the tree will have been cut later, and therefore last longer. At Glebe Garden Centre Leicester, the reverse is true. We have 1 delivery per year, which means the sooner you come and choose your tree and get it in some water, the better for the tree. Plus you will have a much better selection to choose from.

5) Does the Christmas Tree stump fit your existing base?

If it doesn't you are going to have to choose a different tree, or buy a new base. If you chop lots off the stump to make it fit, you could find the tree won't stand up right.

6) Which Christmas Trees base should I buy?

This is a question we get asked a lot. Over the years we have learned which bases work best and which are a waste of time. For that reason we only recommend metal bases. Plastic ones normally aren't strong enough for the job, and if you are storing them in your attic, then can go brittle over the year. Make sure the base is big enough for your tree AND the water you will be giving it everyday. If your stump fills the base, there is no room for water.

7) Will you net my Christmas Tree?

Here at Glebe Garden Centre Leicester we will net every Christmas Tree, and even help you to the car with it.

How to care for your Christmas Tree

1) Make a fresh cut to the base of the Christmas Tree

When your Christmas tree is cut from it's root, like a human wound, it will try to seal and then heal the wound, in this case with sap. As we are going to want the tree to take up water, this is not good. Make a fresh cut to the base of the tree, taking off about 1cm. At Glebe Garden Centre Leicester we will do this for you, so you can get it straight home and into some water.

2) Keep your Christmas tree base topped up with water

Depending on the size of the tree, they can drink up to a pint if water a day, so keep an eye on it. A great little job for the kids.

3) Keep your Christmas tree away from radiators, open fires and other heat sources.

This will dry out your Christmas Tree, and accelerate it's death.
